  1. Offering Files on the Network

  3. To make your files available to other stations on the network, you must open MacTOPS and “publish” the disk or folder in which the files reside.
  4.  
  5. To publish a disk or folder:
  6.  
  7. 1.   Select a disk or folder from the list in the Local View.  (The Local View is on the left-hand side of the “MacTOPS” window.)
  8.  
  9. 2.   Click on the “Publish” button.
  10.  
  11. Once you have published a folder or disk, it appears as a network disk or folder icon in your Local View. (A disk or folder that is published, mounted or intended for access by others on the network is called a “volume.”)

  14. To publish a volume and protect it with a password:
  15.  
  16. 1.   Select a disk or folder from the list in your Local View.
  17.  
  18. 2.   Choose the “Publish…” option from the “MacTOPS” menu.
  19.  
  20. 3.   Type a password up to 31 characters long in the “Password:” text box in the “Publish” dialog box.
  21.  
  22. 4.   Click on the “OK” button.
  23.  
  24. MacTOPS now only permits clients who can supply this password to access the volume.

  27. To publish a volume and protect it with read-only access:
  28.  
  29. 1.   Select a disk or folder from the list in your Local View.
  30.  
  31. 2.   Choose the “Publish…” option from the “MacTOPS” menu.
  32.  
  33. 3.   Click on the “Read–Only” check box in the “Publish” dialog box.
  34.  
  35. 4.   Click on the “OK” button.

  37.  MacTOPS locks that volume to those clients who may attempt to write to it.

  40. To automatically publish a volume each time you start your Macintosh station:
  41.  
  42. 1.   Select a disk or folder from the list in your Local View.
  43.  
  44. 2.   Choose the “Publish…” option from the “MacTOPS” menu.
  45.  
  46. 3.   Click on the “Publish at System Startup” check box.
  47.  
  48. 4.   Click on the “OK” button.
  49.  
  50. MacTOPS publishes that volume. From now on, MacTOPS will automatically publish this volume each time you start up your Macintosh station.

  56. Removing Files on the Network

  58. You can “unpublish” a volume (remove it from the network) at any time, as long as no clients are accessing it.
  59.  
  60. To unpublish a volume, open MacTOPS and:
  61.  
  62. 1.   Select the published volume from the list in your Local View.
  63.  
  64. 2.   Click on the “Unpublish” button.

  67. To unpublish a volume that MacTOPS publishes automatically at system startup:

  69. 1.   Select a published volume from the Local View.
  70.  
  71. 2.   Choose the “Unpublish…” option from the “MacTOPS” menu.

  73. 3.   Click on the “Publish at System Startup” check box in the “Publish” dialog box.

  75. 4.   Click on the “OK” button.
